B. Hanoi – (Dien Bien Bus Station) – Tay Trang Border Gate – Muang Khua.
1. Pick you up at hotels/motels in Hanoi Old Quarter area from 3.00pm - 3.10pm. Pick up at Lao embassy at 3.20pm. Pick you up early to avoid traffic jams that affect your schedule.
2. Mr. Hung who pick you up – We will provide a photo of Mr. Hung so guests can easily recognize him.
He will arrange a mini bus/taxi to take you to the bus company office. (About 17km from Hanoi Old Quarter)
3. Ticket price: 950,000 VND/person (Pay to Mr. Hung who picks you up). (Transfer bus from Hanoi Old Quarter to the bus office is included)

6. The bus arrives at Tay Trang border gate at 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM day 2 then preparing to check out Vietnam and check in to Laos.

C. Fees at the border?
You need to pay attention to the mandatory fees at the border gate to avoid wasting a lot of time: Exiting Vietnam, you will have to pay a fee of about 2 USD + Entering Laos, you will also have to pay a fee of 2 USD. The total amount you need is at least 4 USD = 100,000 VND
Applies to all nationalities including Vietnamese and Lao nationalities.
D. Things to note when booking a bus from Hanoi to Muang Khua
1. For nationalities that are not eligible for Laos Visa Free, you are required to have a Laos Visa. To get a Laos Visa, you need to go to the Laos embassy - Address 40 Quang Trung Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi. You should come Lao embassy in the morning before 11.00am. You will receive your Laos Visa 3.00pm the same day. The Lao Embassy is closed Saturday and Sunday. (Tay Trang border gate does not accept Lao Visa on arrival (VOA) and Lao evisa. Therefore, you need to go to the Laos embassy to apply for a visa before departure)
Please check your current Vietnam visa to avoid visa overstay. You need to depart at least 1 day before from Hanoi when your Vietnam visa expires
2. On the way, the bus stops at Vietnamese/Laotian restaurants for guests to have dinner and lunch.
3. Almost all Lao buses cannot use wifi.
E. How to get from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi and Nong Khiaw
1. Introduction
- A popular means of transportation from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi and Nong Khiaw (Nong Kiaow) is by boat on the Nam Ou River.
- Boats depart every morning, but times depend on the season so check with the tourist office or your guesthouse when in Muang Khua. Go to the marina to find out when the boat departs.
- To book boat tickets to Muang Ngoi or Nong Khiaw, you just need to book at your motel, or the tourist office in Muang Khua or at the dock.
2. Boat Schedule from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi:
You should arrive at the pier before 9.00am. The train usually departs from 9.00am - 10.00am.
Depart for Muang Ngoi.
On the boat trip, there are passengers picked up along the way.
On the way, we passed by a dam. The boat will stop there. You will be transferred to a mini bus or tuk tuk to another pier. Continue on another boat to Muang Ngoi.
Arrive at Muang Ngoi around 3:00pm. Total travel time from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi is about 4.5 - 5 hours.
+ If you book a boat ticket to Muang Ngoi. After that, you will spend time exploring, staying in Muang Ngoi and then moving to Nong Khiaw by motorboat, which is a good choice. From Muang Ngoi, there is a daily boat trip to Nong Khiaw at 9.30am, ticket price is about 50,000 VND.
+ If you book a ticket to Nong Khiaw, the boat will drop off passengers at Muang Ngoi then continue for another 1 hour to Nong Khiaw.
