B. Hanoi – Tay Trang Border Gate – Oudomxay – Vang Vieng
1. Pick up at hotels/motels in Hanoi Old Quarter area from 3.00pm - 3.10pm. Pick up at Lao embassy at 3.20pm. Pick up guests early to avoid traffic jams that affect your schedule.
2. Mr. Hung who picks you up – We will provide a photo of Mr. Hung so guests can easily recognize him.
He will arrange a mini bus/taxi to take you to the bus stop ( near 20km)
3. Ticket price: 1,500,000 VND/person (Pay to Mr. Hung who picks you up). The bus ticket price includes mini van/ taxi to pick you up from Hanoi Old Quarter to the bus stop, a sleeper bus from Hanoi to Oudomxay and a train ticket from Oudomxay to Vang Vieng
4. Bus type: Double cabin bed without toilet inside bus.
5. Bus departure time: 5.00pm - 5.30pm day 1
6. The bus arrives at Tay Trang border gate at 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM then preparing to exit Vietnam and enter Laos.
7. Bus arrival in Oudomxay, Laos is about 3.00 PM on day 2. Bus company staff will give train tickets to you - The train departs at 3:56PM and the train arrives in Vang Vieng at 6:43 PM. If for some reason the arrival time to Oudomxay is later, the driver will change to the fast VIP soft seat train at 6:30pm and you will be in Vang Vieng at 8:12pm
C. Things to note when booking a bus from Hanoi to Vang Vieng
1. For nationalities that are not eligible for Laos Visa Free, you are required to have a Laos Visa. To get a Laos Visa, you need to go to the Laos embassy - Address 40 Quang Trung Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi. You should come over in the morning before 11.00am. You will receive your Laos Visa 3.00pm the same day. The Lao Embassy is closed Saturday and Sunday. (Tay Trang border gate does not accept Lao Visa on arrival (VOA) and Lao evisa. Therefore, you need to go to the Laos embassy to apply for a visa before departure)
Please check your current Vietnam visa to avoid visa overstay. You need to depart at least 1 day before from Hanoi when your Vietnam visa expires
2. On the way, the bus stops at Vietnamese/Laotian restaurants for guests to have dinner and lunch.
3. Almost all Lao buses cannot use wifi.
D. Laos train - what can you take?
Only 20 kilograms of carry-on baggage is allowed for each passenger on the high-speed EMS trains. Ordinary trains allow more carry-on baggage. Wheelchairs for disabled passengers are allowed and some stations have elevator access.
Items prohibited from being carried by passengers into the stations or on trains are:
1) Weapons and ammunition of any kind such as pistols, rifles, sports rifles and other modified guns. (The rule does not apply to civil servants, police officers and soldiers.
2) All kinds of explosives such as fireworks and rocket-propelled grenades.
3) Chemicals, including hydrogen, methane, ethane, butane, ethylene, propylene, acetylene, carbon monoxide, liquefied petroleum gas, fluoride, oxygen (except for medical purposes), gasoline, diesel and kerosene.
4) Drugs of all kinds, including heroin, ephedrine, crystal meth, cocaine and marijuana.
5) Sharp objects such as knives, axes, cutters, etc. that can cause injury or death.
6) Animals, both alive and dead, including cats and dogs.
7) Food that smells bad or watery food that can cause uncleanliness and dirty the surroundings of the train or stations.
